AIMS OF THE
AUSTRALIAN ISLAMIC COLLEGE
KINDERGARTEN / PRE – PRIMARY CENTRE

It is our goal at the Australian Islamic College Kindergarten / Pre-Primary Centre to promote an environment that is caring and supportive where your child will feel safe and secure.  These experiences are carefully programmed at the children’s developmental level and over the year will help children obtain the skills that will help prepare them for primary schooling.

The Kindergarten / Pre-Primary aims are:

·        Fostering a knowledge of the existence of a Creator who loves them

·        Fostering social skills

·        Fostering a love of learning

Some ways we intend to achieve these aims are:

·        Developing listening skills and empathy for others

·        Developing the group and self concept (independence and self confidence)

·        Practice in hygiene, sharing and respect the rights of others

·        Enhance the ability to communicate their needs and ideas

·        Developing gross motor skills e.g. walking, throwing, running, climbing etc

·        Developing fine motor skills e.g. correct use of scissors, pencils, crayons etc

As a consequence we believe the student will learn:

·        To work with teachers and other adults

·        To work with a large group of children

·        To establish good work habits including concentration and perseverance

·        To share and co-operate

·        To follow simple instructions and routines

·        To complete a task or activity

·        To question and answer

·        To be independent, but not to be afraid to ask for help

·        To develop acceptance and understanding of rules and limits

By the time the Kindergarten / Pre-Primary year is over, your child will have formed conceptions of themselves as a social being, as a thinker and a language user.  Your child will be aware of their abilities and their own worth.  Each child shall also be prepared for school life and formal education based on the Education Ministry Policy and Syllabus guidelines and the Islamic Curriculum of our School.

GENERAL NOTES

FEE PAYMENTS

Payment of school fees ensures the best possible Islamic and secular education outcomes for your child.

The cost per child is $1,200 per year and should be paid at the school office.  School fees can be paid weekly, monthly or per term.  (Please refer to the Fees Structure for discounted fees)

Your attention to this matter is gratefully acknowledged.

PROOF OF BIRTH DATE (Kindergarten)

Proof of birth date should have been presented to the office at the time of enrolment in the form of a birth certificate, passport or citizenship papers.  If you have not provided documentation you must do so before your child begins school.

COMMUNITY NURSE  (Pre-Primary)

The community nurse will make a visit to the school during Term 2.  She will carry out a health appraisal of each child which includes:  Vision and Hearing Screening Test, Measurement of Height and Weight, Examination of Skin and mouth, Co-ordination Assessment.  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT PARENTS FILL IN THE FIRST TWO SIDES OF THE HEALTH FORM WHEN PROVIDED AND GIVING PERMISSION FOR THIS VITAL CHECK-UP.

ILLNESS

It is important that your child is kept at home if they are contagious in any way, for example, colds, head lice, rash, discharging eyes or fever.  “Bugs” spread very quickly amongst young children.

If your child becomes sick, or injured at school, we will give first aid if needed and make the child comfortable.  Parents and Emergency contacts will then be notified to provide the child with the best required attention.

ADDRESSES

It is very important that our records are accurate.  Please notify the school or teachers if your address or telephone number changes in case of an emergency.

DRESS

Hats:                      The Kindergarten / Pre-Primary has a policy of “NO HAT NO PLAY”.  A hat is therefore compulsory for the whole year.

Shoes:                    Your child should wear comfortable shoes.  For safety reasons, thongs are not permitted.

Clothing:                 It is compulsory for all students to wear school uniforms.  The uniforms for Kindy and Pre-Primary consist of a green polo shirt, with the school logo and black pants (track pants are permissible).  Orders for uniforms can be placed at the Front Office.  It would also be preferred that each child has an extra full change of clothes in their bags in the event of “accidents”.

Rainy weather:        A raincoat with your child’s name is a requirement in rainy weather.

FRUIT TIME

Your child needs to bring in one piece of fruit each day, to be shared during fruit time.  Alternative to fruit may be cheese, dried fruits and/or vegetables.

LUNCH

A packed lunch should be sent in a plastic container that your child is capable of opening.  Drinks should either be in cartons or plastic drink bottles.  No glass bottles or soft drinks.

CANTEEN

The school canteen operates 5 days a week and menus will be sent home with your child when they attend full days.  The school canteen will be closed during Ramadhan, so children will need to bring packed lunches from home.

Children will not attend school on Fridays for Term 1.

Week 6 to 12 all children will attend four days a week, (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs).
