Theme: WHOLE LANGUAGE

 

FOCUS :                     This unit of work will be focusing on encouraging students to use strategies such as picture and context cues, experimenting with print and composing their own texts.

GOALS:          Develop an understanding that spoken language can be conveyed through written text and visa versa.

                        Develop an awareness of conventions of written language.

                        Provide an opportunity for students to read and write different texts  which can be incorporated into all the learning areas.

In this unit of work it is suggested that the teacher use a wide variety of big books as

a focus for each week which can be integrated into all the learning areas. This unit can be

run over 4 to 5 weeks.
