Staffs are rostered for ‘before school’, recess, ‘wudu’ (ablutions for prayer), lunch time, prayer and after College supervision duties according to the needs of the College and the demands of their current teaching load. Rosters are displayed on the staff room notice board and should be checked regularly. Prompt arrival to duty and a high profile should be maintained whilst on duty as this can be effective measures in maintaining the safety and well being of students.

Teachers must follow the playground duty roster as constructed by the Deputy Principal and delegates. Teachers must be on time to their duty area and must be visible at all times. Teachers must make sure they can be easily located by any student in need. The teacher on duty is legally responsible for all the students in the teacher’s allocated duty area. Exchange of duties is only acceptable if sanctioned by Deputy Principal.
If a teacher cannot do their duty, they need to arrange through the HOLA for another teacher to "fill in". It should be emphasised the teacher allocated the duty is still responsible for that duty to be done.
If a teacher is absent, their relief will be responsible for their duty. Programs left for the relief should emphasise this yard duty. Should no relief be appointed, the HOLA may arrange a "swap" of duties. All full-time teachers should comply with this swap. All teaching staff will be allocated yard duties in proportion to a full-time load by the HOLA.
Teachers who arrange for sports equipment must arrange its return to the sports store. Yard duty teachers should ensure the return of loose sports equipment at the end of each lesson break. Teachers must ensure that children sit down whilst eating lunch and that rubbish is removed from the playground and veranda areas at the end of each break. Should a student be seriously injured whilst a teacher is on yard duty, that teacher is to ensure that appropriate first aid is provided and that medical aid is sought. After the event, the yard duty teacher should record in the accident book ‘when’, ‘where’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ the accident occurred. This book is always stationed in the College office.
Non Muslim teachers will be rostered to assist in discipline during Midday and/or Asr prayers.

Each morning the students should assemble for prayers and an informative talk, which includes notices for the day and other important information. Staffs are required to maintain a vigilant presence whilst accompanying the year group for which they are responsible. Students should be encouraged to stand in an orderly manner, fully participate in the proceedings and leave in an orderly manner.
Form/ Class Teachers are responsible for their own year at assembly, making sure that, students:
a) Are lined up on time in their respective grades and genders.
b) Are all present in correct and neat uniform
c) Behave during assembly
At the end of assembly, students with their teachers will disperse in an orderly and proper fashion towards their classroom without delay.
STAFF ATTENDANCE AT ASSEMBLY
Staffs are required to be at school 10 minutes prior to the commencement of morning assembly and attendance is compulsory. Teachers are required to lead their student to the classroom after the assembly. Prior notification is necessary if staffs are unable to attend.
Duties other than teaching (DOTT) periods are to be utilised for classroom preparation, marking, photocopying, reading etc. It is NOT to be used as lunch break and staffs are not to leave school grounds during their designated periods. For periods that do not involve student contact, staff are to fully utilised their period in:
For example, in a 30 hour week, 25 hours are ‘contact’ or teaching hours and 5 are D.O.T.T. If for some reason, D.O.T.T. hours exceed 5 in a given week, this time will be allotted to ‘Remedial’ and/or ‘Relief’ duties and in the case of HOLA, their assigned duties.
A staff member who will be absent is expected to give as much prior notice as is practicable to the Head of Section so that adequate supervisions can be arranged. The Head of Section may be contacted at home the evening before, or at 6.30am till 7.00am on the morning of the absence. If illness strikes overnight, the Head of Section should be contacted no later than 7a.m. (approx.).
Teachers should notify the Head of Section of what subjects, at what year levels and in which rooms they will require to be supervised, what class work and homework students are to complete, and if there are any other duties that are required. They should also outline how long they expect to be away.
Emergency work for at least two days appropriate for classes taught should be left with the Head of Section within one or two days of commencement of each term. A teacher’s programs should be readily visible on their table at all times (years 1 to 7) in case of unexpected absence. (Refer to 2.2 Emergency Folder for more details)
Teachers must not leave the College grounds without first notifying the College secretary. They must sign out at reception with their WASP card on leaving, and sign in on return.
Full time teachers and non-teaching staff under the award system are entitled to 12.5 days sick-leave per year. The unused portion of entitlement to paid sick leave in any one year shall accumulate from year to year. Once a full time staff member has gone beyond their entitled sick-leave, any overused sick leave will be deducted from their pay. As for part time staff, their sick-leave will be pro-rata according to their hours of work.
Any staff absent for two days or more is required to verify their absence with a doctor’s certificate. More than two days absence without a medical certificate will be unpaid.
1. Application for Leave of Absence ( See APPENDIX 18)
All staff members need to fill out an Application for Leave form which can be acquired at the school’s offices. This needs to be filled out and signed by either the Principal or Deputy Principal. The form can be submitted to the school office for faxing to the Director for approval. Once the form has been acknowledged and approved/disapproved it will be faxed back to the school with a final decision. The staff member will be notified and a copy of the form returned to the staff member.
2. ADDITIONAL LEAVE
There have been instances in the past where education staffs have taken unnecessary sick leave and leave earlier than the scheduled school term break or returning later than scheduled. While the college acknowledges that such leave is unpaid, staff need to be aware this practice can have detrimental effects on the education of our students.
Unscheduled leave will result in less contact time with the students having an adverse effect on their education instruction by disrupting the leaning process of the students.
Every leave request is assessed as an individual case and management is mindful that emergencies and unforseen circumstances do occur, however staff are reminded to schedule holidays within the holiday period and to limit all unscheduled and unnecessary leave.

Any staff or students that witness another staff member encounter illness or serious injuries during school hours should report the situation to either of the school’s offices immediately to arrange for the appropriate care. An incident report should also be completed sighting the incident.
It should be noted that any staff members that need to leave the school early for reasons should fill out a Leaving Premises form which can be acquired from the school’s offices. The form needs to be signed by either the Principal or Deputy Principal for approval. Staff leaving early need to notify the Head of Learning Area to make prior arrangements for relief for classes and duties.
