AIC- Frequent Locally Asked Questions

A-Staff: 1985: 2 teachers TO: 2005: 290 staff members

Q1) Are all teachers/staff members Arab/Muslim?

AIC staff has always been multi-ethnic and multi-faith. There are staff members from all around the world and from various faiths. The College does not discriminate against any religion and only hires persons based on their qualifications and experience.

Q2) Are the teachers under qualified and/or underpaid?

All AIC teachers are fully qualified and meet the standard required by the Curriculum Council. There are two types of teacher salaries or ‘awards’. Independent school award for teachers is $4,000 to $12,000 less (per annum) than government school award. The AIC pays most of its teachers the government award level. Therefore in most cases the salaries we offer our teachers, exceed those offered in other independent educational institutions. This is because we aim to employ only the ‘best’. An excellent teacher is essential in aiding a student to perform to their optimum level, and thus no expense is spared and there is no compromise on the quality of our staff.

B-Students:    1985: 50 students   TO: 2005: ~2600 students

Q1) Are all students refugees/migrants?

Students that attend the AIC come from all around the globe, USA, Africa, China, Malaysia, Jordan, Pakistan, Europe etc. However many students are naturalized Australians, are Australian born, or of Anglo-Celtic origins. Not all students are migrants and also not all students are Muslim, because the College is open for any student to attend.

Q2) Do students face racial intolerance?

Owing to the fact that they come from so many different countries and ethnic backgrounds, the student body is rich and diverse. This diversity of ethnic background has brought with it an appreciation, respect and tolerance of all to one another.
