PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE FOR THE WEBSITE:

The Australian Islamic College , Thornlie Campus , is a private Primary school that caters for students from Kindergarten to year 10. The school has been established in 1986, and since then a lot of progress happened. The school caters for 35 different nationalities which represents a wide cultural diversity but the religion of Islam is the main focus so as to overcome the cultural differences.

Academically our school is comparable to the best schools in the state of Western Australia as evidenced by the results of the benchmark testing which is a an assessment of the literacy and numeracy levels for the years 3, 5 and 7 students of public and private Primary schools. For the fifth consecutive year our school has achieved an average that is above the state average in the areas of literacy and numeracy. In addition to that we participate in the University of New South Wales competition testing in the areas of Writing, language, Maths and Science. Again our results are very impressive as evidenced by the number of students who attain high distinction and distinction from our school.

Our classrooms are small in numbers where the maximum number of students in any class does not exceed 25.this ensures an education of high quality for our students. Each class in the lower Primary school has a teacher’s assistant in addition to the teacher. This enables the students with low academic level to have extra attention to raise their level to an acceptable standard.

We send out staff regularly to attend professional development courses to get them acquainted with the latest in education. Most of our staff have first aid certificated to enable them to deal with any accident on the field.
I believe that our school is fulfilling the academic and the spiritual growth of our children as Islam is a way of life where self discipline and self control are 2 main characteristics of the religion.

The year 2006 is the year of the book drive where a great deal of our effort will be focussed on literacy by raising the standard of our library to cater for more and more books through community and school involvement. So far 1300 books have been collected thanks to our students, parents and staff efforts but we need more books for our library as our target for the year 2006 is 5000 books.
