Changes to Bus Service and Alternatives

Regrettably we can no longer sustain the bus service without making changes.

What does this mean for parents:

1. The bus will operate on a more direct route (reduced stops) to our school
  • This means students who are not on the route will have to make their own way to the bus route.
  • The Australian Islamic College will act as a facilitator to help parents who may have difficulty with the new bus route (reduced stops) to the school.
2. All enquires as of now should be directed towards the bus drivers who will advise of the route changes and any other changes . “Said Hourani” (mobile 0433 453 401) will be co-ordinating these changes.

Ways in which we can assist parents with the new changes:

1. Facilitating travel between your home and the bus route for both pick up and drop off
  • This could be either by foot (“walking school bus” where a parent walks from house to house collecting students) or car pooling to get the children to the bus route for the AIC buses to pick them up and drop them off.
  • Please email bus@aic.wa.edu.au and we will supply you with other parents in your area who wish to use this option to get their children to the bus route.
2. Car pooling to school.
  • Please email bus@aic.wa.edu.au and we will supply you with other parents and workers at the school interested in this option. Any fees charged would need to be discussed directly amongst interested parties.
3. We have requested Transperth to look at servicing our schools better.
  • At a cost of 50cents per trip it may be a possible alternative.
  • If anyone is interested in utilising this service but would like their children to travel in a group we will assist by supplying you with other parents in your area who wish to utilise public transport. (Please email bus@aic.wa.edu.au )
  • We are looking for any parents who are willing to travel from the outer Perth suburbs to one of the colleges daily or if many parents respond we could have a roster. This would be most appreciated and help reduce any safety fears.

Over the page are existing Transperth Services that are already available. If sufficient students use Transperth we will assist by running a free bus to pick up and drop off students from the bus stop where the Transperth service ends(near the school).

KEWDALE CAMPUS TRANSPERTH SERVICES:

343 Oats St Station - Kewdale

A Morning service departs Oats Street Station ( Rutland Avenue  7:41am arriving Orrong Road near the school at around 7:46am (Capacity exists for around 50 students on this bus)

Afternoon service departs Orrong Road near school around 4:21pm arriving Oats Street Station 4:28pm (Capacity exists for around 40 students on this bus)

Should Australian Islamic College students exceed 30 on the morning 343 service, Transperth will endeavour to put on an additional bus in service just for students at a more appropriate time. At present, capacity exists on the earlier 343 service and for Transperth to run another service for the school at this time in the morning would require the purchase of an additional bus.

At present we are unable to retime the afternoon 343 as there are already 25 passengers on the bus who would be adversely affected by the change. Only once capacity was reached on afternoon services could Transperth consider an additional service.
